I have been reading about this.

It tears my heart that an already food insecure area like East Africa has this locust swarm to deal with.

Massive use of pesticides have “cured” the USA of it’s 17 year locust swarms.

Is that good?

Only once as a kid in the 70s did I experience a locust swarm.

Another example of nature looking out for itself, however that is, and not for human agricultural needs.

I do hope the rest of the world helps out.
There is plenty of surplus to send aid.

Another example of how the natural world makes life hard. No need to manufacture difficulties.

Though the human race is good at creating conflict and suffering where it needn’t exist.

January 2020 started as a complete disaster. And yet this continues as a sequence of disasters for the system´s own interests.

Grasshoppers are Kosher..

pesticides are not as much a problem as they once were. the regulations have changed a lot in 50 years
most of the very toxic pesticides are now banned

we have larger problems with overuse of fertilizers
which pollute the rivers with nitrates and cause algae blooms

the outlet of the mississippi river into the gulf of mexico is
a particularly problematic zone

Heavy use of pesticides that stay in the soil for decades wiped out locusts.

Also paving over farmland, meadows, woodland .

The main US locust had a 17 year cycle.
They still pop up but not like they once did.

Some scattered areas still have a good size swarm.

True that modern pesticides generally break down much more rapidly.

Humans have changed the natural world in alarming ways.

So true that in the US and Europe the pesticides used break down quicker.

Glyphosate isn’t something I want to eat.
I won’t eat soy or corn , and it’s tough to find those raised without glyphosate.

Fertilizer run off is a big problem. The Chesapeake bay is dying because of it.

As most human problems it comes down to too many people and a poor use of resources.

It’s all about the most profit in the shortest time.

Farmers get squeezed financially and have a slim profit margin, so it’s understandable why they do what they do.

Old systems are showing their flaws more than ever.
