I´m looking for good movie recommendations
Nothing too new though.. and, I´m basically looking for movies that don´t suck.

I watched a ´newer´ movie today, Keanu Reeves one, this movie had me in a tailspin. I still don´t even fully understand it. It sort of reminded me of "Primal Fear" (great 90´s film) but not written as well. It just seems like the more modern films have seemed to forget how to cohesively put together a good script. Everything just seems slopped together, whether it´s fully understood/explained or not, no nuanced details etc..

Just stuff that doesn´t suck. I like older movies mainly - think "Blow Out" starring Travolta circa 1981...that sort of thing..

Whatcha got?! :74:

Rane (Wounds / The Wounds) 1998, One of Serbia’s best if not the best. Difficult to explain, but it is not an emo movie. Can be seen as a simple or a multi-layered movie.

Insomnia 1997 Norwegian - something really special about that one. Soundtrack by one of my fav. artists.

Strange Days 1995 you prob know

The Swimmer 1969

Pusher 1996 Danish good entertainment without being a drivel or too light

Ohhh this sounds good (Rane), and I´ve never seen it! ::goes into my archive:: Thanks, C!

You´re correct. . "Strange Days" was one of my ultimate favorite movies in the 90s.. I remember recording it off HBO :61: - such a good one. Juliette Lewis was one of my favorites growing up...

Honestly, not really. I´ll take all.. minus horror.. Not into it.
sidenote: I went through a big Asian horror phase years ago and what I learned is that Asian horror is superior to American horror.. :4:

Strange Days is / was super obscure. Never heard of it until 2013. Yep. Don´t know anyone IRL who has seen it except for the person who recommended it to me, and she was a movie critic lol.

When I saw it I was blown away, thought this movie should have been amongst the culturally defining ones from that era.

But I think its name was quite lame, but most importantly

Timing is what kept it out of the limelight IMO - released a month after "Angelina Jolie´s tit slip" aka "Hackers".

Back then there was only so much space for a movie of a certain genre. You get 1-2 "Magic of Computerz - Mystery Of Da Netz - Crazy Future Tech-Know-What-I´m-Saying" slots per year, then the viewer is satiated and not interested, and "Hackaz" took that slot a month prior its release. Pity, it would have stopped Jolie´s sham career from taking off. Oh well..

Spartacus was my favourite for the longest time.

NZ movies to keep an eye out for

Once were warriors (drama)
Boy (comedy)
Out of the blue (thriller based on acutla events)

I recently watched The Gods must be Crazy. That was quite a surprisingly wholesome movie

"

Timing for sure...
and back then, when it was released, was just a different time. The only people I knew who liked/saw the movie in 1995/96 was myself and my best friend. I used to watch it on loop in those days.. it was far ahead of it´s time. People back then couldn´t conceive of the idea/technology that they put forth in the movie... and look where we are now, right?

Ahaha hackers was another classic, I also had it on VHS.. I watched it not long ago actually again for the 1st time in years - the internet displayed in the movie and their screen names lolol...

Ever seen "Freeway"? (1996) It has just as many taglines as American Psycho..

BIG YES On Asian horror superiority 🦇

I would recommend the Rocky series if you are looking for inspiration but I´m from Philadelphia so I´m biased 🔔

If you are looking for a comedy I would recommend Howard the Duck 🦆

A good thriller that comes to mind is “ Enemy of the State “ from 1998 with Gene Hackman and Will Smith.

Or perhaps the movie that inspired “Blow Out , the 1966 movie “ Blow Up.” It’s a good thriller with the bonus of 1960s London.

Plus The Yardbirds with Jimmy Page in a club scene.

Yes 100% and the quality of acting has gone down as well. Everything is so nonsensically emotional.

Hi, rohini!

what I learned is that Asian horror is superior to American horror.. :4:

=>😂😂😂😂😂 I agree! I love those ´Conjuring´ or ´Insidious´ series, but I rarely watch Asian horror movies... and if I do, I can´t finish watching them because they give me nightmares or sleep paralysis... lol 🥶🥶🥶

Have You Seen the Ramones documentary “End of the Century “? I know You like them.

It’s one of my favorite Rock documentaries.

Here’s an Internet archive link.

https://archive.org/details/…

Or maybe 1979’s “Rock ‘n’ Roll High School “, featuring the Ramones. It’s very silly.

Here’s an archive link to that.

I’m on a Ramones kick at the moment.

Hello Rohini Rini Moon, last films that interested me, of the many I have seen about twenty in these 2 months, were The inevitable of director Ferks Castellani, the zero theorem everything is vanity of 2016 directed by Terry Gilliam, and trigger point, director Brad Turner, are for that moment the only ones that I have not carried on the track, but maybe because while I was reading a book, in any case Dell hot air cinematic sometimes I feed myself:), I forgot the most beautiful was Pinocchio the cartoon by director Guglielmo Del Toro, beautiful. Hello :17: :30:

Easy Rider…it’s about personal freedom, or the feeling of it, and the dependent craving of the society for security

Maybe the pluto libras were the last generation of halfway decent actors..

Everything is so nonsensically emotional.

and pluto scorp and later are rather wooden at it.. not convincing at all.
they are good looking, young and sexed up, but watching them act is like
watching CGI generated humanoids from "The Animatrix".. like the generation
that went to the "uncanny valley" school of acting. Lots more T & A than there
used to be. Lots more. But that can´t make up for the lack of acting ability.

The dumbed down emotions, overexpressed- maybe we have comic books and anime
to thank for that. Certainly those have been strong influences in the culture
for a long time. Those are not genres known for nuance and subtlety.

and the sound mixing these days.. dialogue inaudible but explosions and gunshots
rattle the pictures off the wall.
