Placidus or Whole signs?.. which to use?
I still haven´t decided on which to use. Which do you prefer and why? The whole sign system is the traditional one right?

I have personally found placidus or equal house far more accurate in synastry readings than whole signs. I also prefer them for natal interpretations.

"A lot of nuance is lost with Whole sign and I can´t give you a better reason other than it doesn´t really resonate for me to view it that way."

I feel personally that I relate to some of my whole sign placements more than placidus... for example, I relate more to having a 7th house whole sign Sun and Mercury rather than 6th house (placidus)... yet I feel my 4th house Saturn makes more sense in Placidus than my 5th house whole sign Saturn.

I´ve used placidus and whole sign for synastry and the one that makes more sense to me in my current relationship is the whole sign synastry.

Experiment with both and keep an open mind to all house systems. Just take it all with a grain of salt. It\´s fun to try different house systems and see which resonate best. I like the theory that whole sign resonates more with how outer evens affect us, and that placidus is how our inner world is affected.

The reason why I don´t use whole sign is that it doesn´t allow me to be both a Libra rising AND a Libra 12th house Sun.

It says I´m a 1st house Sun and to most people that know me, they would understand why that doesn´t make much sense.

A lot of nuance is lost with Whole sign and I can´t give you a better reason other than it doesn´t really resonate for me to view it that way.

I´m more inclined to use Prophyry than Whole Sign. Prophyry is used in Evolutionary Astrology and I resonate with most of I´m open to the idea it might be relevant. But whole sign......I see no good arguments for it.

There are many house systems. Try using harmonics. No prob with house divisions. Plenty of books written. All you need is Ascendant and MC.

Anni in some cases whole sign is good but to interpret natal chart whole sign is really problematic and also placidius gives false results. I will explain you with an example. I have brother who asc is Aries. His sun sign pisces 28 degree and mercury is 3 degree Pisces. İn whole sign his Pisces is in 12th house and in placidius also 12th house. İ have mercury is 12th house and i was so shy to communicate with people. My younger brother was never shy. He had many friends and he had good communication with people when he was child. Now he has many many friends. And everytime he says brother i learned from brother this fact. All time. Because he likes to learn from friends and this very well fits 11th house and in this case equal house better works maybe. And be believes easily his friends because he is Pisces mercury. :1:
My method is conclusion from how works your planet and this fits which house..but i believe sometimes two houses can affect that. Houses are always problematic subject in astrology and i already solved this problem. Because there is not certain solution about this problem.

I use both and feel they´re both valuable in giving different angles to the situation. As well as vedic. There is always the bigger picture and many pieces to the whole!

It´s funny because it actually made me think of or imagine a party with the planets as they are reflected in my chart - a combination of a horror show, drama soap and circus :61: :61:

Also with the sun being the date there could be some fireworks 😁 even some self implosion :61:

Also another thing I should have added is that with placidus planets within the same sign being removed from outside the sphere of the house belonging to that same sign.

E.g. using placidus my Jupiter in libra is in the 12th in Virgo, but using whole signs it rejoins the Libra house that it´s sign belongs to rather than being under the rule of Virgo

I use Porphry although I started with Placidus. There are many house systems. You can either try them out or pick the one that makes more sense based on how the divide the intermediate houses. Placidus is good if you are doing magic. Since the intermediate house cusps are planetary hours. So if you draw a chart at sun rise the the house cusps for that chart are the planetary hours.

I prefer whole sings, personally. I resonate with it better and it simplifies things a bit by having one sign per house.

I´m not sure if I believe in that interpretation of either a empty 5th or Saturn in the 5th though.. Although for me I have saturn there but the 5th is ruled by the 4th house. And also the 5th by the 4th lol so I don´t know if that changes the interpretation. I feel like the 4th house generally matters more for family though.

Yeah, you´re right about the Sun in 11th - check out my thread on the Sun, a lot of people there wrote about the 11th, it´s a great placement even iif you´re cough cough not so social :61:

Well yes also nobody likes the moon in the 12th I think.. or just anything! Lol and i have my moon, mars and jupiter there (if you use placidus) :4: but also on the other hand if using the whole signs as I edited my post to add I have my sun closely located to chiron in the 11th! So there simply is no winning for me either way 😁

However I have been thinking recently that planets in the 12th house can be turned into positives and people shouldn´t override potential positives with the possible negatives. Pluto in the 12th afterall could be a strong position for you ☺

NOBODY likes Pluto in the 12th :61:
Anni, the final nail in the Placidus coffin for me was seeing the chart the other day of someone born way up north - that looked like a joke, really. In WS all is symmetrical and symmetry soothes my soul :27:

I look at both.

In my chart at least, I´ve found whole signs to be more accurate in displaying external events.

In whole signs, Saturn rules my 4th house, and is in the 9th house. I lived in another country for a while, and for most of my life, it was like a "second home", even when I returned to my country of origin. (Saturn is also in Gemini.) Even now, I live someplace that can be considered "far away" from where I was born, although it´s in the same country.

Placidus seems more accurate to me in terms of reflecting physiological factors.

In Placidus I have my moon in the 4th; in whole signs, it´s in the 5th. Psychologically, I´m definitely a 4th house moon, without question.

However... I do have a kid. There´s nothing really in my Placidus chart that would indicate that. Empty 5th house, barren sign ruling it. Having the moon in the 5th, as it is in whole signs, seems to be more of an indicator of children...although I´ve seen people with not much going on in the 5th house who have kids... So...

Sorry I couldn´t be of more help in aiding your decision... I just personally find value in both systems.

And of course, which house system to use is a personal decision. It should be what works for us.

Oh yes that was the other thing using ws the sun moves into my 11th too. And the North node to the third, which honestly makes a whole lot more sense also as being in the 2nd makes noooo sense lol 🙃 but having said that I don´t know if I´m clear on what the difference between the sun in the 10th and in the 11th. Though also having it in the 11th doesn´t make a lot of sense at this point.. Although I´m not absolutely clear on the interpretation. But if I´m not wrong it includes some sort of recognised social efforts (cough*I´m not that social*cough)
Also I´m assuming being near chiron in the same house is BAD and undermines that possible placement 🤤

It´s good to hear someone else´s interpretation of their own chart using ws. Ahh so you don´t like Pluto being in the 12th? I don´t know I think being in the 11th could equally distribute the same energy just in a different location

With me, the primary difference is Pluto in 11th (Placidus) vs. the 12th (WS), so no thank you WS! :61: I also have an empty 8th in WS vs. Sun in 8th. In both instances WS interpretation is closer to the truth by a lot :1: there was something else, I don´t remember now, will edit after I have checked :3:

Absolutely, also purely because there seems to be no consensus on issues like this (Including domiants, modern vs traditional etc) so everyone´s opinion seems to have something to offer! Although of course I haven´t read enough yet on this topic to have a strong opinion and so I can mainly only attempt to interpret the personal differences as applies to my chart.

The primary difference I have noted is that using the former I have Jupiter in the 12th and with whole signs it´s in the first. Being in the first almost seems to make sense as it´s in libra and in conjunction to the ascendant as well but other than that..

Can I ask why your inclined towards the whole sign system?

Anni, I don´t know if you accept answers from beginners to astrology? :61: :61:

I was advised to begin with Placidus simply because of the enormous amount of information available, even just online, due to its popularity. This makes study easier. I am inclined towards WS, so I will probably do that in the end.
