Difference between Indian and Western Astrology
Hello,
Growing up in India I did go to many jyotshis. I always felt that the advice I got was pretty generic and most of the time it seemed like things you wanted to hear or something outrageous.
I know on a basic level Indian astrology focuses on the position of the moon whereas the Western style is based on the sun. My sign by birth is Libra but according to Indian astrology I become a Capricorn. So this has confused me quite a bit.
In terms of a question I would like to ask specifically about my relationships and love. My natal
chart does show that I have a Venus square Saturn. I have had difficulty finding good people. Does it show up on my Vedic chart?
Any insight will be great!
Thank you

Thanks for sharing, but it is the same or not?
Vehlow
The Vehlow house system belongs to the equal ("same size") house systems. Here, the Ascendant is placed exactly in the middle of the first house. Ascendant and MC therefore do not coincide with a house cusp.
The Vehlow house system is named after the German astrologer Johannes Vehlow (1890-1958).

15 degrees each way,
the same like Bhava, or not?

btw which country do you stay!
Having read a chart in one system,
do not usually attempt again in another system
taking a whole lot of time to compose.
People think these are just rattled off,
a cookbook reading,
and often merely say thank you, sans feedbacks,
even if responded to a personal PM.
Nice of you to have cared to share details
validating the effort gone into.
We are discussing things here and not merely
offloading off the shelf products commercially.
These are astro discussion forums.
Some get irritated with the astro-logics incorporated,
want straight yes-no answers
and expect all answers to be right,
it is more about probability,
based on astro principles and grammar.
Each can have own proficiency levels.
Giving a blank reading is difficult,
and may deviate from some ground realities
among the possibilities.
One usually is curious what one has to say
without knowing the background of the person,
and then ask the questions one by one,
having to practically realign the reading again.
Appreciate for the care to share feedbacks,
wishing you well,
kshantaram

uses wholesign equal houses in the basic chart,
supplemented with bhava chart for houses,
and 9th harmonic as basic harmonic
among the range of harmonic charts,
especially used for marriage matching,
apart from confirming chart interpretations.
western forums have no scope for
vedic bhava chart and vedic 9th harmonic,
hence use vedic whole sign houses
for basic chart reading,
which is fair enough.
Bhava chart and 9th harmonic are used
by advanced Astrologers,
though this too is quite basic,
but needs extra effort and practice and experience.
Avoided not to make things sound complicated
and confused.
Appreciate raising the query, regards,
kshantaram

That man is incredible, real virtuoso!

There is "western" house system named Vehlow-Equal, calculated also on astro-seek, which seems to me similar to what you say about Bhava houses. What do you think about Vehlow system?http://radixpro.com/project-houses/…
Why Vedic astrology is using sometimes Bhava houses, sometimes Whole Signs system, sometimes Placidus?

C/2019 Q4 Borisov with 2-16 kilometres in diameter, ultra extreme speed and eccentricity, the second confirmed interstellar object, can be here in just two months. Some even speculate about alien spacecraft.

Thanks for taking the time to provide such a detailed response. If everyone I went to in India gave me such explanations I would have been happy :)
The salient features that are correct from what you mentioned :
- I am a foodie, very keen in learning about foreign cultures and traditions
- I broke my leg badly last year and needed major surgery. Throughout my life since I was 8 I’ve had to have surgeries for various reasons. At 8 I had to have my appendix removed.
- I’m an assistant librarian and supervisor by profession. So I work on projects and my favorite part is working with kids. I work on mentoring them especially as part of after school programs.
- I have never been married and at the moment still single. I’m fine with how my life is now and I’m happy. I would like to
settle down but not at any cost. I come from a close knit family and they mean a lot to me.
My question to you sir is do you see similarities to things you mentioned to me in my natal Western chart?
Thank you again

were not satisfied, and again ask about your vedic chart.
Could have posted in the vedic section with a sidereal chart for ready ref.
The debate here instead of discussing your chart has become an academic discussion between vedic and western systems, unless you intended to get western interpretation.
Do share how this reading here generic or outrageous!

btw, astrology is merely my hobby, whether western or vedic charts;
with the little generic information and understanding i happen to have;
Vedic starts with Moon Nakshatras finetuning more specifically,
further divided into nine harmonics,
arriving at planetary periods at birth and later, with sub-periods.
Marriage matching starts with the quarter-charana moon is placed
and tarabala/luck between the bride-bridegroom and other matching points
for health, temperament,emotional bonding, mutual attraction, etc etc.
The planets are matched for luck, children etc and mutual compensations
and whether planetary periods supportive of each other.
Marriage timing is finetuned to suit nakshatras of bride-bridegroom,
especially in South India where marriages are performed to Muhurtha
even after mid-night, hasth-milap performed to the second auspiciously;
Astrology and astronomy are matters of precision
alike landing of Chandrayaan on the moon, nothing should go amiss,
whatever methodology you follow.
The vedic chart of houses is known as the Bhava Chart,
usually not deployed on western forums,
the bhava calculated from the asc degree
generally equalised with 15 deg eitherside for ease;
Sign determines how a planet would behave,
while bhava determines what house matters will be affected,
and during the planetary periods and transits.
The transits in principle are seen from the moon
governing the attitude and behaviour of the person in action
and the resultant outcome, based on the individuals mood;
whether able to take the opportunity or not;
with very elaborate transit rules;
Now adays the argument is to see transits from the asc,
as asc is finetuned to the hour of birth,
moon stays in a sign for 2.25 days rather.
Asc chart determines the subject matters,
while moon determines the probable behaviour and success or failure.
Navamsa or 9th harmonic determines
whether a planet is strong enough on the terrain to manifest itself;
matters of precision alike CT SCAN/MRI etc.

Politics going bad.
Asteroid Apophis threatening to blow up in a decade.
The dark might win!

There should be one true principle in astrology in whole world.
We entered last decade of Pisces era and it´s time to wake this old Lady up an give her back her crown.
With the pissibilities that this age is giving us is absurde to live in the dark.
Knowledge about astrology has to be united, filtered, upgraded and spread...

My argument that Edgar Cayce went through "phases" that were beyond his control would have started a fight with his son Hugh Lynn Cayce!
The eastern Astrologers starting more schools in the west might be idealoguery but would help ´ALL´ astrology everywhere.
Swearing loyalty to one Astrology and then dabbling in another is like going to receive closed communion thinking it is open communion!

September 18, 2019 at 12:36

Freddy Mercury was also a Zoroastrian from India. We share the same background. ?

September 18, 2019 at 12:24

=====
That´s cool! This is new

It looks like you include secondary progressions at the start.
According to secondary progressions every next day of life stands for every next year of life...what means that every year our natal chart is actuality changing (progressing).
BTW
Isn´t that Freddy Mercury was Zoroastrian?

September 18, 2019 at 12:04

I’m a Zoroastrian and traditionally our calendar had 12 months of 30 days. Means our year is 360 days! To account for this discrepancy they tried to make changes and adapt it.
But it is interesting that every leap year our birthdays according to the Zoroastrian calendar goes back 1 day. So
I was born Oct 4 but this year my Zoroastrian bday will fall on Sep 26. Needless to say all this is too confusing for me to keep track. But from an astrological perspective also I’ll be going from a Libra to a Virgo slowly.
It’s hard to explain but this link may help clarify what I mean.

Astrology (generally) has to refresh little bit...

September 18, 2019 at 11:52

=====
Yes they are (like everything in Universe), some of them are moving faster some of them slower (much slower than solar system) and that leads us to conclusion that neither of those two systems are completely correct, since both are connected to constellations made of stars that are moving non-coordinately...

September 18, 2019 at 11:21

=====
Right, but stars are also moving https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/…

September 18, 2019 at 11:18

=====
If Tropical shows Capricorn in December 15000, the same like in 2019, so it will be still aligned in future with seasons on Earth.

September 18, 2019 at 11:18

=====
Of course is normal, It´s not normal to be stuck for eons in space where everything moves...
