On Domicile/Adversity Exaltation/Depression.

On Domicile/Adversity Exaltation/Depression.
I want to discuss an issue about which there is much confusion: that is the difference between the duad of Domicile/Adversity vs Exaltation/Depression (fall)

First of all, we must discuss the Thema Mundi, the archetypal astrological chart, the one that the Ancients called the chart of the universe. It is from this chart that we can learn about rulerships (including why the so-called "outer planets are the rulers of no signs). We can also learn about the question of Domicile/Adversity and Exaltation/Depression

First, let us discuss these terms. When we say that a planet is in its own domicile, we mean that it is placed in the sign which it rules. Look at the Thema Mundi. The Moon´s domicile is in Cancer. The Sun´s domicile is in Leo.
The others are:

The domiciles of Mercury are Gemini/Virgo
The domiciles of Venus are Taurus Libra
The domiciles of Mars are Aries Scorpio
The domiciles of Jupiter are Pisces Sagitarius
The domiciles of Saturn are Aquarius Capricorn

So if you have Venus in Taurus in your chart, we say that Venus is in its own domicile.

Now do you see some logic to this thema mundi and the domiciles (signs) and the planets in them. The two luminaries (Sun, Moon) form the basis of the chart, and those planets closest to their light make up the subsequent domiciles (signs). I will write more on this later.

Also I couldn´t find much about Neptune and Uranus. Information about Pluto regarding exaltation was lacking.

Thank you so much Ancient. This means a lot to me.

I read through the whole thread (skipped some off topic conversations and arguments). I have Sun in Aries, Venus in Pisces, Jupiter in Cancer but I have Mercury in Pisces and Mars in Pisces too. It´s true I´ve heard many times that I am stupid but I am certainly not stupid but I´ve noticed I have to go much deeper to really understand something and it takes me longer. I´m usually bad at tests for example but I´m mostly self taught. That´s because I had a hunch that physics was wrong (Einstein and most of chemistry could be explained in an easier. So there is a great intuition but I´m not sure if that is coming from Mercury in Pisces. It is trine to Jupiter in Cancer. Also Mars is trine Jupiter but also trine Uranus. Neptune is squaring my Mars and it is one of the few planets giving me trouble, it is also squaring MC.

"People with Mercury in Pisces are highly imaginative and their expression is out of this world as per sidereal Vedic astrology. That is, they express themselves in a very unique way which is sometimes hard to understand for the average people.

The Astrological reason for this is the rulership of Jupiter over the zodiac sign Pisces. Jupiter rules over our higher knowledge and spiritual knowledge. These natives like to express their ideas in a very spiritual and imaginative way."

This is certainly true however even when I´m not the best at math or computer programming, I certainly enjoy it a lot!

"To become successful with the traits of Pisces Mercury, Jupiter should be dignified to support the native. That is because Jupiter is a very spiritual and religious planet that appreciates the traits arising from this combination."

"As a result, a strong Jupiter helps them to manifest successfully despite lacking logical and analytical strength. On the positive light, it leaves more room for their creative and imaginative part of the brain to expand."

I can say for sure I´m hesitant and never quite sure but I think it is because for Pisces it is hard to adhere to limits.

"Usually, Mercury is a fast and swift planet designed to transfer information with extreme precision and speed. However, with the debilitation of Mercury, there is a great lack of quickness and precision.

This causes a lot of communication issues of various kinds. For instance, they often fail to understand what people ask or tell them. As a result, natives with this combination often ask about the same information repeatedly because failing to receive the idea in the first place."

This surely applies.

But there is more, Mars conj. Mercury:

"You have very imaginative creative ideas and you bring them into reality if you can manage to have the patience to stay on target as the Martian energy can make you more impulsive or lack the commitment necessary to see things through."

It seems this conjunction makes for another planet, according to astromatrix.org

Ani, look at the chart I´ve posted. If you look at each sign, it is divided up into 5 parts that each represent a planet. Those are the bounds.

Ancient Astrology im glad That You R so Kind to use your time to clearify so many terms.
Since im willing to stay in this site i better learn the terminology....and also make My Best effort to express by the English language rules!

Is good that you want to share data and teach.
Astrology is complex due to the many variables it has.
Well...i wanted to say that about the Accidental matter...is a complement to the dignitys...
Just adding in case it isnt in any of your threads.
Also about Bonds ....is the part that we use terms like : mutual reception ? Stelliums.combust conjunctions?

Ani, I have not been posting much on Astro-seek recently. I will soon start posting more.

In traditional astrology we speak of the five essential dignities. (1) Domicile lords (2) Exaltation/Fall (3) triplicity lords (4) Bounds (5) Decans. These are used to determine the strength of the planet in a particular sign.

"Modern" astrology does make use of the first two, but modern astrologers know nothing about the triplicity lords, Bounds or Decans. I might write something on the Triplicity Lords. I also might write something on the bounds since they are very important in prediction. Decans are more important to astrological magic, so I don´t know if will get round to writing about them. However, there are also the 12th Parts which are important.

Now according to traditional astrology, the 7 traditional planets are the domicile rulers. The outer planets Uranus, Neptune and Pluto do not rule any domiciles. I have explained WHY in my post on the Thema Mundi. Here´s the link: https://forum.astro-seek.com/topic/…

Because the outer planets do not rule any domiciles or signs, they are not exalted or in fall or in domicile anywhere. Mars rules Aries and Scorpio. Pluto does not rule Scorpio. Mars is exalted in Capricorn and in fall in Cancer. Saturn rules Aquarius (I know people have a difficult time understand this, but that is because they don´t know the history of how rulership was given. I believe I discuss this in the Thema Mundi post I linked above). Uranus does not rule Aquarius.

What you call "Accidental Domicile" is called "Accidental Dignity" in English.

Also dear Ancient Astrology i would like to know how do u call in English terms this idea:
Urano in 11
Sun in 5
We call it accidental domicile.

Also if Júpiter is in 6
Or mars in 7 ....is accidental exhile?

How is it call the system of houses

( Im upset cuz i dont seem to find the propper way to ask it!!!! :63:)

Maybe you could understand me already?

Im reading your post and is great becuz is only for 7 planets d moon and sun.
( Actually i read discussions about Urano exaltation...if Kiron is exalted in Virgo or else...and the Pluto Exaltaion as well)

Saturn in Aries . Is cold is fear is not taking risk...the environment of the family restrain the expression...

I would like to say that as much wider the explanations and adjectives...the more describing accurate it gets....as crazy as it sounds.Otherwise....im affraid we will hear ppl thinking inside those examples...only.
Is just a worry concern( my typical behaviour...not that im saying that is wrong what you do! )

But the explanation about domiciles falls ( cosmic Nature)....is top 5 most important lesson ....is a great subject!
I enjoy reading you ....i would only add the classic idea in order to fullfill the concept.

Just my humble opinion...the one You didnt ask for...i know! I wanted to add.

Saturn is a diurnal planet and is not at home in the feminine Capricorn sign in a nocturnal chart, he is exactly the opposite, but what do I know, I have only lived with it for 58 years?

I want to say something about this comment, and I don´t care that you have deleted your account because I have a sneaking suspicion that you´re a regular here under a different name.

You say that you´re 58 years old - I´m sorry that you found something I said in here to be of fault and/or worthy of critique in your opinion...and I am always open to and fully appreciative when any one who is of an elder to me wants me to grow & learn. If you think I should be aware of something, or I should know better, than perhaps you ought to demonstrate that behavior yourself, instead of condescending or patronizing others because of it.

Or are you implying that just because a person reaches a certain age that they themselves now have no room for fault any longer? They automatically stop learning and growing because they reached age 58? That you somehow stop making any mistakes at all in life because you reached your late 50s?

If you think you stop losing opportunities in life to continue to learn just because you´re 60, then maybe youre the one who should re-analyze your birthchart.

Yes, I am a Hellenistic astrologer.

I think you´re reasoning is sound, however, it explains more about the relationship between Mercury and Jupiter in terms of why Mercury is in detriment in Sagittarius and why Jupiter is in detriment in Gemini; and Why Jupiter is also in detriment in Virgo and why Mercury is in detriment in Pisces.

However, I agree with you that Mercury is the neutral planet and is more adaptable by nature. For example, when he is in a night chart he joins the nocturnal sect. When he is in a day chart, he joins the diurnal sect.

For a good discussion about why Exaltations are in certain place, see: https://www.youtube.com/watch/…

I enjoyed your planetary interpretations and sharing your knowledge on ancient astrology? Are you a Hellenistic astrologer?
I was just curious how would you explain the fact that No planet is exalted or in fall in Gemini?

What comes to my mind, is the nature of Mercury, Hermes the Trixter , he shapeshifts and changes according to the environment (hence Gemini´s reputation for being shifty and changing their mind). Unlike Jupiter who has opinions and strong believes about right and wrong, the nature of Mercury is fluid , hence he doesn´t like it in Jupiter´s court-Sagittarius...

Wonderful lesson Ancient Astrology. Took me a bit to fully digest it all, but the timing is good! My mars is in adversity and frankly I need to get over it and this helps. I missed your posts and the gift of knowledge in them!

I’d also didn’t consider that yea, it’s great to have a planet in domicile but different aspects will affect it. It’s a nice gentle reminder to myself to consider the big picture and not get too focused on the details that it’s detrimental.

“However, all is not lost when Venus finds herself in Aries or Scorpio, or when Mars finds himself in Libra or Taurus. For a while they can have torrid sex :)“

From Quora...

"Arudha Lagna can be calculated as follows, Count the house from Lagna to the house where Lagna lord is placed. Then count same many numbers from the Lagna lord sign to get Arudha Lagna. For example for Aries Lagna if Mars is in 5th house Leo, now count 5 from Leo will give Saggitarius. So Sagittarius is the Arudha Lagna.

There is an exception devised by some school of thoughts if in case Arudha Lagna becomes 1st house or 7th house then consider Arudha Lagna to be 10th house from the corresponding house. For example, if Leo is the ascendant and its lord occupies own house. Then counting 1 from the Leo will again give Leo as Arudha Lagna, in this scenario the Arudha Lagna will be 10th house from Leo, ie: Taurus.

There is another way to calculate accurate Arudha Lagna with the degree of the ascendant, for example if the ascendant is Aries(18 degrees) and its lord Mars occupies the 2nd house Taurus(55 degrees) then by normal calculation the Arudha Lagna will be Gemini(counting 1 sign from Taurus). But according to the calculation based on degrees of the planet, it will be Cancer(ie; 55 + (55–18) = 92 degrees which will fall in Cancer).

Having said that, our Rishis didn’t confuse with all these details. Their definition is pretty simple,

Count the house from Lagna to the house where Lagna lord is placed. Then count same many numbers from the Lagna lord sign to get Arudha Lagna.

Coming to the significance of Arudha Lagna, In my experience the Arudha Lagna has important significance in determining financial outset of the native. Generally Arudha Lagna falling Kendra(1,4,7,10) or Trikona(1,5,9) or upachaya(3,6,10,11) will be good for financial status."

Using another Vedic technique...

"Aruda Lagna" states that the queen would have a high rise due to how people saw the queen...

*Edit... That´s wrong... It´s not pointing to the 10th house using this technique... It´s pointing to the 7th house.... Again... *
