One Time Event or Recurring Theme

One Time Event or Recurring Theme
One mistake I see a lot of you making and one that most so-called "Modern" astrologers make is to insist that a configuration occurring in the chart will be a persistent theme. That´s not always the case. Sometimes, the event indicated by the symbol happens just once in a lifetime. Of course, like all things it may have an enduring influence, but another event like this doesn´t necessarily recur.

So, let´s say you had Libra coinciding with your 7th house (marriage, relationship) and the ruler of Libra (Venus) is in the 8th house (Death). One thing that *MAY* happen to you is that you have a very tragic loss of a spouse or significant other. Now this is probably a one-time event. Of course, especially if this happens regarding one of the double-bodied signs (Gemini, etc) or their rulers, it is in those instances more likely to happen more than once.

My point is that sometimes things just happen once and other times they are a persistent, recurring theme. Please keep this in mind. This (incorrect) belief that an astrological phenomena must always be recurring is further aggravated by some versions of modern astrology that insist that the birth chart is only an extension of the individual´s psyche.

So Rhetorius indicates that when the ruler of the 7th is configured to the ruler of 8th the person will be a widower or divorced.

Once if in a solid sign: Taurus, Aquarius, Leo, Scorpio

Twice if in a bicorporeal sign: Gemini, Pisces, Virgo, Sagittarius

Many times if in a tropical sign: Aries, Capricorn, Libra, Cancer

Obviously this would often be the case for when the ruler of the 7th was in the 8th house

So, according to them, these qualities should be taken into consideration when thinking about the frequency of an event. I can´t confirm or reject it. Needs more study.

Hi Nikkia, I don´t think it´s easy to delineate whether it will be a one-time event or a persistent event, though the placement of a significator (a planet) in a double-bodies sign, like Gemini, Sagittarius or Pisces will tend to mean that the thing in question happens more than once. Also, I should think that whether it falls in a fixed, cardinal or mutable sign could play a role. Need to do more research into that.

I need to give this some more thought though. Thanks for asking the question.

As for whether it will happen in the past or future, I don´t have a good solution to that yet, though we can look to profections coinciding with transits. That might seem like a mysterious response at the moment, but I will try to explain some other time. Also I am presently studying about Zodiacal Releasing and this, too, may be a key.

I agree that shit just happens.

Being brand new to astrology - is there a way to know the difference between a One Time Occurrence vs. a recurring theme?

Are there indicators that one should be aware of, if so - which ones?

Do the same methods/ and indicators apply to Past events vs. possible Future events?

Also, if the birth chart isn´t the only extension of a person´s psyche, is a Progressed chart the other piece of puzzle? Must one look at both natal and progressed charts to see the ´entire´ psychological picture? Is personal evolution gleaned from this comparison?

Any other insights would be useful to a beginner, like me. Thanks !

Great topic, btw,

It’s from the Lord of the Rings. JRR Tolkien.
That is where the picture she posted is from.

It is part of an inscription on the “One ring” .

I always mean the books when referring to Tolkien, not those very pretty but godawful movies that fucked up some extremely key pieces of the meaning.

I am a huge Tolkien fan. My uncle told me about them when I was 7 and I became enthralled .

Troy in upstate New York.

Helen originally lived in Schenectady but moved because Helen of Schenectady didn’t have that same ring to it as Troy.
