Why not mark in some way if the inner planets are ahead or behind the Sun?

Why not mark in some way if the inner planets are ahead or behind the Sun?
The horoscope chart only shows directions, but no distances!
Mercury is currently in Scorpio, behind the Sun, but could also be between the Earth and the Sun, also in the same sign.
The further away a planet is from us, the larger the articles of the zodiacal circle. The greater the distance a planet must travel to change its position by a degree distance that we can understand, and thus move to the next zodiacal sign (direction).
Besides, distance is a problem in itself, because it makes a difference which planet is closest to us, Mercury, Venus or Mars.
Yet astrology does not deal with distances, only directions. Why?

The stars and other celestial bodies show us every detail of the tangible and subtle forms of creation, appearing and passing at a given time; they offer insight into the nature of time: the ability to observe it "coming" and "going", "flowing", "stopping" and "moving". Physical phenomena that engage and engage stars and planets are not the direct causes of what happens on Earth, but reflect the same wheel of time. If we understand the concept of time, we also understand that it´s nature is fractal. In other words, there is a pattern of time repeated in various spatial models that exists in each of these models and can be measured measurably as an ever reappearing and disappearing set of philotaxic (exponentially growing) ephemerides (ranging from photon beams to highly developed mammals, including us - humans). This pattern, because it´s observed, can thus be understood - and this because it is cyclical in nature, which is the basis for itself. The sanskrit language has the idiomatic term "sansara" for this, loosely translated meaning "turn of life" or "spiral of time".

Therefore, with the help of astrology, we are not able to confidently predict the winner of a sports competition, or a bear market or a bull market. Anyone in astrology who claims they can do it´s lying. However, what astrology can show us are the opportunities that open up before us. These opportunities harmonize with our potential, skills and will to make an impact on the world we live in and on ourselves. In summary, astrology is a comprehensive system for making assumptions about the likely behavior of human beings, both in the sphere of their individual and group lives. It´s a study about ourselves - about who we were, who we are and who we will be (what we can become).

Intellectual honesty, inherent in non-obscuring openness to the novelty of skepticism, suggests treating astrology as an extremely useful aid in systematizing human behavior: classifying patterns of behavior duplicated from generation to generation, highlighting the ways of manifesting the uniqueness of those fighting for the right to individuate individuals, as well as a thorough understanding of the motivations of so a single person, as well as a community to which that person belongs. In the end, it boils down to the observation of the interdependence between the inner and outer world - the mutual relations between the human being, the starting point for these considerations, the environment and God (or what, as a result of, for example, reluctance to religious terminology, we could simply call "the basis of all creation "). As the years of life abound with phenomenal experiences, an unobtrusive and (un) final conclusion appears: the more you know about the world and the better you understand it, the clearer what "the wisdom of the stars" has to say about it - and the more understandable astrology becomes, the clearer the image of the world it describes.

By the way a simple distinctive mark would be enough. A letter as for retrograde planets.

Yeah, astrology is about positions on the sky, at least it once was.
But the geocentric model doesn´t accurately represents these two inner planets positions. You don´t know if they are far behind the Sun, or close next to the Earth, because everything is just a conjunction according to the chart.

´astrology is not about "physical celestial body" interactions´
- And you don´t want it to be that one day?
- Or you don´t want to know what is behind astrology, why it works?
- Or are you afraid to find out how the world really works?

Everyone is just guessing, mystifying that it´s a magical thing that just works and that´s enough for them.
Why can´t it be improved, developed, researched?

"Yet astrology does not deal with distances, only directions. Why?"

Well, distance has some importance at least talking about planets: "personal planets" are closer to the Earth than "social planets", and those are closer to the Earth than "transpersonal planets". But that´s it I think.

IMO that´s because astrology (at least any kind of "geocentric" astrology) is more about positions in the sky than anything else. That´s why astrologers take care, for example, about the motion and speed a body describes in heaven (which affect it´s position in a progression and give information on how it relates to other positions -applying or separating for example-) but not about the distance where it is located which seems not to be very relevant in terms of precision for the interpretation.

Think about fixed stars, you can see how their positions affect reality, but may be some of those stars, physically speaking, no longer exist anymore besides you can still see them there. Being so far (or even not existing anymore) doesn´t make them less effective. So, the position where we see them is what matters.

Summarizing, I think astrology is not about "physical celestial body" interactions but about "positions viewed from our planet´s sky" interactions, and that´s why physical distance is not important.

The Magi Society Magi Astrology is an exercise in four dimensional visualization
I sometimes suggest supporting mountains with fifth dimensional flying buttresses!
I memorize the fact that I have a morning :154: and an evening :153: and keep promising to look-up the report on that!
The most spectacular thing in the West in recent weeks has been the evening :154:, the brighter objects are hard to ignore!
